CAEP promotes excellence in educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to advance P-12 student learning. More than 900 educator preparation providers will initially participate in the CAEP accreditation system, which serves all providers currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Educator preparation providers (EPPs) include traditional institutions of higher education, as well as alternative pathways such as residency programs.

The Accounting Associate will support the accounting and finance functions. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Associate will over-see the work of the Staff Accountant and work collaboratively with other CAEP staff to ensure the quality, integrity and efficiency of CAEP accounting practices.

Essential responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

Accounts Payable

  • Review all Account Payable transactions prepared by the Staff Accountant to ensure for accuracies and consistencies with CAEP policies and procedures
  • Ensure all financial and accounting transactions are performed in accordance with GAAP and are aligned with CAEP's finance policies and procedures
  • Research and communicate all accounts payable inquiries received from internal and external stakeholders
  • Audit staff and member expense reports and CAEP credit card reconciliation reports to ensure compliance with CAEP finance policies
  • Working with the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for Form 990, 550 and 1099 reporting and compliance requirements
  • Working with the Chief Financial Officer, assist with external audits
  • Working with the Staff Accountant, responsible for all vendor maintenance

Accounts Receivable

  • Responsible for dues and membership billings, ensuring aligned with organization policies
  • Responsible for all daily bank deposits for multiple bank accounts
  • Reconcile daily cash receipt with association software billings to ensure a prompt record of outstanding receivables

General Accounting

  • Perform month-end bank, petty cash, and investment reconciliations for review and approval of Chief Financial Officer
  • Perform general ledger account analyses as required, including prompt follow up of any reconciling matters
  • Prepare journal entries as required with review and approval of Chief Financial Officer
  • Responsible for maintaining petty cash, ensuring approval of all activity
  • Assist in preparing annual budget and in producing monthly and quarterly financial reports

Requirements

  • BS in Accounting or Finance, with demonstrable accounting experience and strong knowledge of GAAP
  • 3-5 years full-cycle accounting experience (non-profit experience a plus, but not required)
  • Experience with external auditing process and familiar with all 990, 1099, and other tax filing requirements

Experience and demonstrable proficiency in Solomon software. Knowledge of iMIS is also preferred (++), but not required.
